Shelter Aussies
View the dogs below. Click on their pictures to see a larger image. We hope to help shelter dogs find good homes, so we post as many as we can. Some are temperament tested, some are not. If you have toddlers or young children, we do not suggest adopting an Aussie straight from the shelter. Shelter dogs are all URGENT. Please go to the shelter to learn about these dogs.

Shazam
Shazam is a fun-loving, handsome/adorable Australian Shepherd mix. Shazam is very active and energetic, and will need a home where he gets plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Potential adopters should have dog experience and do some research on herding breed dogs to make sure that an active Aussie is a good match for their family. Shazam loves to play with balls and would make a wonderful exercise companion.

Shasta
This beautiful girl is Shasta, a two and a half year old Australian shepherd. Shasta was surrendered to the shelter in January 2010 because her family didn’t have enough time to spend with her. Shasta was an indoor dog with outdoor privileges and is housetrained. She was in an outdoor kennel when left alone and did okay other than some barking. Shasta lived with kids between the ages of seven and twelve and her family said she was great with them. We believe Shasta would be fine with kids that are as young as five because she can be rambunctious at times, but is very sweet and loving. Shasta has been introduced to our office cat and was very interested in chasing him, so she needs to find a home without any cats. Shasta didn’t live with dogs in her previous home. When she met some at the shelter she was very selective. Shasta is what we like to call a “bossy Aussie”. She likes things her way and if another dog is going to bother her too much, she will not tolerate that. If Shasta lives with another dog it would have to be easy going and preferably older, although Shasta would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Shasta knows all of her basic commands and is very well behaved. She does pull a bit on the leash, but walks very well with an Easy Walk harness. Shasta’s previous owner described her as, “friendly, playful, affectionate and active”. She adores people and is very eager to please.

Shasta is located at the Butte Humane Society in Chico
